Post-Diagnostic Support Sessions
Chiswick, West London
A formal diagnosis is often only the first step, and although it can finally be an answer for children and their families, often ‘what next’ is a question many parents ask us. What do we do now my child has a formal diagnosis? What does it mean for our family? How can we best support them?
We provide in-house Psychoeducation Support sessions to families whose child has recently been diagnosed with ADHD or Autism. Currently these appointments are only available to children and young people that we have diagnosed in our clinic.
What is Psychoeducation
If your child has recently received a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism, it is natural that you may feel overwhelmed trying to understand this, what it means for your child and your family and how to make sense of all the information available. If you feel that you need some further support post-diagnosis, we offer ‘Psychoeducation sessions.’
Psychoeducation is the provision of education and advice and can help parents, children and teenagers make sense of being diagnosed with ADHD or Autism. Psychoeducation provides information on your child’s condition, and its management, empowering children and parents with necessary skills and ways they can play an active role in decision making.
Psychoeducation sessions are one-off sessions, for parents and child to attend together. We can also provide them for just parents.
The sessions are 45 minutes, ensuring there is an opportunity for families to also ask any questions they may have about the diagnosis.
Who provides the sessions and how does it work?
Our sessions are provided by our Clincal psychologist, Dr Elena.
Prior to your session, our Clinical Psychologist will review your child’s neurodevelopmental assessment report and additional paperwork that you filled in with us. This is so she can learn more about your child and family, ahead of meeting with you.
The session can be provided in-person, in the clinic, or via Zoom if you and your child feel more comfortable this way. You can decide as a family whether your child would like to attend this session alone, or with you present.
Fees
Sessions are charged at £110, payable at the time of booking.
