In-School Counselling

We provide a Children’s Wellness Centre ‘in-school’ counselling service, supporting primary and secondary schools across London. The service is funded directly by the school, meaning pupils can access mental health support at no charge. Evidence has found that appropriate mental health intervention not only can support overall wellbeing, but can help pupils enhance their academic attainment and attendance. Having a trained in-school counsellor can also help to alleviate some of the pressures and demands on school professionals, allowing them to have a designated Mental Health Therapist to signpost their pupils to

How does it work?

The Children’s Wellness Centre will liaise with your school as to what type of support you are looking for for your pupils. We offer a flexible approach taking into consideration your budget, unique needs and the age of the children and young people within your school.

  • We can provide a half day service, one morning per week (9.00am – 1.00pm) supporting 3 or 4 children per day
  • We can provide a full day service, one day per week (9.00am – 4.00pm) supporting 5 or 6 children per day
  • We offer further ‘add-on’ options, where a before school, or after school session time can be added to the half or full day service, allowing for additional pupils to be supported
  • We can offer a ‘drop-in’ lunch clinic service, accessible to all pupils
  • We can provide parent and teacher support services, if appropriate

Although we strongly advise that schools commit to an in-school service for at least one year to allow consistency for their pupils, we offer our in-school support on rolling termly contracts, allowing added flexibility for schools who may not immediately wish to commit long term.

What we provide

A fully qualified Child and Adolescent Therapist, able to support children between the ages of 3 – 18 years. All our Therapists hold Enhanced DBS checks, registrations to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and appropriate insurance. We only work with Therapists in our clinic who have particular qualifications in relation to children and young people – adult counselling is a completely different style of work.

A Children’s Wellness centre business manager, able to liaise with you at any point during the term and respond to any queries or questions.

A ‘Therapy toolkit’ consisting of all items needed for our Therapist to conduct sessions within your school, including all necessary paperwork and parental consent forms.

What we require from schools

Everything needed for this service is provided by The Children’s Wellness Centre, however we will need a small room for these sessions to run from. For consistency for your pupils, it is important that this is the same room each week.

We provide all pupils with a ‘Therapy Box’ to support the therapeutic work, therefore, where possible, a small storage cupboard would be of use.
