FAQ
We are a private, independent practice, therefore are not associated with the council or NHS, however we do have close relationships with some local NHS doctors who refer children and families to us. All services are paid for privately by the parents / carers. We also work with many local authorities who pay for children with an ECHP to have therapy with us. We have known some schools to also pay for a child's assessment with us.
For our formal assessment processes, we strictly follow NICE (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence). Unfortunately not all clinics follow this, which can impact the validity of your report. We would strongly urge you to look into NICE guidance yourself, which can be accessed via our home page. Our clinicians are all appropriately registered with the necessary organisations including the Health and Care Professions Council, the British Psychological Society and The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
All fees are listed beneath each therapy or assessment service. We are very transparent with all fees and have no hidden costs.
Currently all our services are paid for directly by parents / carers, although in many cases we have known families who are able to claim this back via their own insurance. If this is the case, we can send invoices to you that you can pass on to your insurance providers, in order to make a claim. We are always happy to confirm this with your insurance company if need be.
We provide an array of different assessments, run by different clinicians. We can formally assess for ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety, OCD, Mood Disorders, Phobias, Trauma related concerns, and if appropropriate, Eating Disorders
We opened as a child and adolescent counselling practice in 2016, then expanded into a multidisciplinary clinic in London in 2018. We opened a second branch in Kent in 2021
Behavioural concerns are common and are something many families experience at some point.
Usually these can be resolved with some external support, however, please bear in mind that they can also be caused by an underlying concern or diagnosis. It may be useful to consider an Assessment with our Speech and Language Therapist to rule out any frustration that is affecting your child’s behaviour, due to social or communication difficulties.
If the latter does not apply, depending on the level of concern, we then would suggest then either seeing our Behavioural Consultant or one of our Child Counsellors. Our Behavioural Consultant would work with you as parents (without your child present) and offer you tips, advice, and strategies that you can put in place at home. For milder behavioural concerns, we would often suggest that this would be your first port of call. It is also a much more affordable option, as a one-off session is £80. Often families find they only need between 1 - 3 sessions to notice a difference.
If you feel that a Behavioural Consultation would not be suitable and you need further support, then the next step would be for your child to see one of our Children’s Counsellors. Our Therapists would work one-to-one with your child to try and get to the route of what may be causing their behaviours.
It can be difficult to know which route is best for behavioural concerns - if you are unsure of which direction to take, please drop us an email expressing your concerns and the sorts of behaviour your child is displaying and we can guide you in the right direction. At time it is possible that a neurodevelopmental or mental health assessment may be required.
We provide play-based therapy and counselling sessions for children and adolescents, suitable for those from the age of 3. We also can provide more of a formal psychological mental health assessment if you feel your concerns may stem beyond what counselling can support with.
For children struggling academically, there can be a range of reasons why this may be occurring. Anxiety and emotional concerns can often be the cause of academic difficulties, as a child is likely to find it difficult to focus on learning, if they have other confusing or upsetting thoughts on their mind. If this is the case, or there have been changes at home, or a recent troubling event, then it may be useful to speak to one of our Child Counsellors. Often children in Counselling, over time, experience greater academic attainment.
If you feel that the concern is mainly related to a learning difficulty, then seeking support from our Educational Psychology team, would be advisable. Schools often can provide this service, but usually the waiting lists are long – it may be worth speaking to your child’s teacher about this first. An Educational Psychology Assessment is an extensive look into your child’s learning styles and aims to give answers and guidance as to any specific difficulties and how these can be further supported at home and within the classroom.
Do also consider if your child may have any form of communication difficulty – this can halt learning and, in these cases, it may be useful to seek support from our Speech and Language Therapist.
Friendship troubles can be common and something most children will experience and usually it may be nothing to worry about. However, if your child is struggling with friendships long term, this can, in time, affect multiple areas of their life, including their self-esteem. Sometimes when the concerns are minor a little bit of short-term external support can be beneficial; more serious worries may be a sign of potential delay, or social difficulty and at times a neurodevelopmental assessment may be required.
It may be useful to consider whether you feel your child has any form of communication delay, that could be affecting their interactions with peers. If so, you may like to speak with our Speech and Language Therapist and have an initial Assessment. Alternatively, if you feel some one-to-one support may be better suited, our Child Counsellors work with many children who are experiencing friendship difficulties.
Depending on the concerns, it may be an idea to make an initial appointment with our Paediatric Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist. The Assessment can determine whether there are any concerns present and our team will either advise work that can be carried out at home, or some follow-up Physio or OT sessions within the Centre.
Our Nutritional therapist works with an array of food and nutritional concerns. If you would like to have one-to-one tailored support, our Nutritionist offers sessions supporting baby weaning, fussy eating and more in-depth food-related health concerns for older children and teenagers. Dr Patel is also a Paediatric Doctor so can support with a huge array of difficulties. She also works with many children with Autism and ADHD and has seen how successfully her nutritional plans have benefited children when there has been issues around behaviour. If eating concerns are related to sensory difficulties, or motor concerns, our Occupational Therapy team can offer support.
Our Speech and Language Therapist works with children from the age of 18 months through to 18 years, providing Screeners (to assess if your child’s speech is on track), in-depth Assessments and regular weekly Therapy sessions. At times some families may benefit from an Autism assessment, depending on the level of communication concerns. This is something we can discuss with you in more detail.
Sleep disruptions can impact many areas of a child’s life and it is incredibly common for families to get into a negative sleep cycle pattern.
It is important to note that for some children, sleep disruptions can be a sign of anxiety or an underlying concern. In these cases, it may be advisable to work with one of our Child Counsellors who can help get to the route of what may be causing the sleep disturbances.
If you feel your child does not need one-to-one Therapy support and you would prefer a more personal, tailored approach, our Behavioural Consultant works with many families who need a little extra guidance around sleep and can provide a one-off consultation to give you some extra guidance and tips. In some cases sleep disturbances can be linked to a neurodevelopmental condition - we provide Autism and ADHD assessments and can discuss this in more detail with you.
We provide formal Autism assessments, in line with NICE guidance and can personally discuss this in more detail with families. Many of our therapeutic services can aid a child with a diagnosis of Autism.
Our Behavioural Consultant is highly experienced in working with children with Autism and can offer parents individualised support strategies and ideas that can be implemented at home. She runs hourly consultations for parents, usually in the evenings, without your child present.
Our Paediatric Doctor and Nutritional Therapist, Dr Patel, also works with many families whose child has suspected or diagnosed Autism. She has had some fantastic results with her nutrition plans, which she has found can support with many behaviours associated with a diagnosis.
Our Child Counselling team also are experienced in running sessions for children with Autism – if you feel your child may need an external space to talk through any of their thoughts or emotions, then please do get in touch. For younger children this would be addressed through play activities.
Our Speech and Language Therapist also can assist children with Autism who may need a little extra support with their communication and language skills and our Occupational Therapy team work frequently with children with Autism.
We provide formal ADHD assessments, in line with NICE guidance if you are looking for a potential diagnosis for your child. In terms of after support for children already with a diagnosis, our Child Counsellors are experienced in working with children with ADHD and can support those with a diagnosis to not only work through and understand what this means, but to enable children to have an outlet for their emotions and frustrations.
If your child is struggling in the classroom, an Educational Psychology Assessment can aim to give unique, tailored guidance on how your child may learn best and what additional strategies need to be put in place to help them reach their full potential.
Yes, of course.
The majority of families who come to us for Therapeutic support are often on an NHS waiting list. Unfortunately, due to high demand, these waiting lists can be very long and sometimes some support in the interim is important. If you begin working with one of our Therapists and then are offered an appointment with the NHS, you can then of course terminate the private sessions at any time.
Additionally, we have many families who come to us after having completed some time-limited work with the NHS, who feel it was not quite long enough. If this is the case, any reports or Assessments your child has in place can be transferred over to help our Therapists with their work. This may mean you can save on having an Assessment with our team, and your child may be able to go straight into having regular Therapy sessions.
In terms of Counselling, our Child Therapists work with many children and young people who have tried to access NHS help, but have not reached the necessary thresholds of risk to be offered support. We appreciate that this can be very frustrating, when it appears your only option left is to seek private help. In terms of mental health, we would always advise you to seek help sooner rather than later. If the concerns have not been present for too long, it may mean that only short-term support is required.
We have many families also on a CAMHS waiting list for a private ADHD and Autism assessment, where sadly the NHS waiting list can at times be very long. We provide these assessments in line with strict NICE guidance.
We appreciate that it can sometimes be difficult to know which service your child may require. Please fill out the confidential referral form below, which will be submitted directly to our Therapy team. This will help us determine what professional and which service may be best suited to your child’s needs.
We shall then send you an email suggesting which direction may be most appropriate for your child. There is no obligation to book any service after this.
