Frequently Asked Questions
We are a family run Centre with a strong passion for children's health and well-being. Our initial practice opened in London in 2016 and we expanded into Kent in 2021.
All of our team are independent, highly specialised clinicians, all appropriately registered dependent on their specialism. Our counselling team are registered members of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and our therapy and psychology team are registered members of the Health and Care Professions Council. For our Assessments, we strictly follow NICE (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence) which is the guidance that NHS follow.
We currently have two branches, one in Chiswick, West London and one in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The Tunbridge Wells branch is located in a large listed building, 72 Grosvenor Road, TN1 2AS.
We unfortunately do not have parking available for clients, however our building is very central in Tunbridge Wells. We are just a few minutes walk from Meadow Car Park and the Royal Victoria Place Car Park.
We have no membership. The Centre is open to everyone!
We are a private, independent practice, therefore are not associated with the council or NHS, however we do have close relationships with many local NHS doctors who refer children and families to us. All services are paid for privately by the parents / carers, although many of the children who access our services have EHCPs and local authority funding in place, who fund their sessions with us.
Yes, of course.
The majority of families who come to us for Therapeutic support or ADHD and Autism Assessments are often on an NHS waiting list. Unfortunately, due to high demand, these waiting lists can be very long and sometimes some support in the interim is important. If you begin working with one of our Therapists and then are offered an appointment with the NHS, you can then of course terminate the private sessions at any time.
Additionally, we have many families who come to us after having completed some time-limited work with the NHS, who feel it was not quite long enough. If this is the case, any reports or Assessments your child has in place can usually be transferred over to help our Therapists with their work. This may mean you can save on having an Assessment with our team, and your child may be able to go straight into having regular Therapy sessions.
In terms of Counselling, our Child Therapists work with many children and young people who have tried to access NHS help, but have not reached the necessary thresholds of risk to be offered support. We appreciate that this can be very frustrating, when it appears your only option left is to seek private help. In terms of mental health, we would always advise you to seek help sooner rather than later. If the concerns have not been present for too long, it may mean that only short-term support is required.
Our fees are reflective of the highly skilled clinicians working with, although we strive to keep fees competitive and as low as we can, taking into account all clinic costs. All fees are listed beneath each service. We are very upfront with all fees and there are never any hidden costs.
Currently all our services are paid for directly by parents / carers, although in some cases we have known families who are able to claim this back via their own insurance. If this is the case, we can send receipts to you that you can pass on to your insurance providers, in order to make a claim.
Behavioural concerns are common and are something many families experience at some point.
Usually these can be resolved with some external support, however, please bear in mind that they can also be caused by an underlying concern or diagnosis. It may be useful to consider an Assessment with our Speech and Language Therapist to rule out any frustration that is affecting your child’s behaviour, due to social or communication difficulties.
If the latter does not apply, depending on the level of concern, we then would suggest then either seeing our Behavioural Consultant or one of our Child Counsellors. Our Behavioural Consultant would work with you as parents (without your child present) and offer you tips, advice, and strategies that you can put in place at home. For milder behavioural concerns, we would often suggest that this would be your first port of call and the most affordable option. Often families find they only need between 1 - 3 sessions to notice a difference.
If you feel that a Behavioural Consultation would not be suitable and you need further support, then the next step would be for your child to see one of our Children’s Counsellors. They would work one-to-one with your child to try and get to the route of what may be causing their behaviours.
It can be difficult to know which route is best for behavioural concerns - if you are unsure of which direction to take, please drop us an email expressing your concerns and the sorts of behaviour your child is displaying and we can guide you in the right direction.
For children struggling academically, there can be a range of reasons why this may be occurring. Anxiety and emotional concerns can often be the cause of academic difficulties, as a child is likely to find it difficult to focus on learning, if they have other confusing or upsetting thoughts on their mind. If this is the case, or there have been changes at home, or a recent troubling event, then it may be useful to speak to one of our Child Counsellors. Often children in Counselling, over time, experience greater academic attainment.
If you feel that the concern is mainly related to a learning difficulty, then seeking support from our Educational Psychology team, would be advisable. Schools often can provide this service, but usually the waiting lists are long – it may be worth speaking to your child’s teacher about this first. An Educational Psychology Assessment is an extensive look into your child’s learning styles and aims to give answers and guidance as to any specific difficulties and how these can be further supported at home and within the classroom.
Do also consider if your child may have any form of communication difficulty – this can halt learning and, in these cases, it may be useful to seek support from our Speech and Language Therapist or Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team.
Friendship troubles are usually something which all children experience and may be nothing to be concerned about. Sometimes, however, if your child is struggling with friendships over a long period of time, this can affect multiple areas of their life, including their self-esteem. Sometimes when the concerns are relatively minor, a little bit of short-term external support can be beneficial; more serious worries may be a sign of potential delay, or social difficulty.
It may be useful to consider whether you feel your child has any form of communication delay, that could be affecting their interactions with peers. If so, you may like to speak with our Speech and Language Therapist and have an initial Assessment.
Alternatively, if you feel some one-to-one support may be better suited, our Child Counsellors work with many children who are experiencing friendship and/or bullying difficulties.
Our Paediatric Physiotherapist can support with all areas of physical development. An Assessment can determine whether there are any concerns present and our team will either advise work that can be carried out at home, or some follow-up Physio sessions within the Centre. Our Occupational Therapy team further offer support for motor skill difficulties, including fine motor concerns, such as handwriting.
Our Nutritionist offers sessions supporting baby weaning, fussy eating and more in-depth food-related health concerns for older children and teenagers. We also offer Dysphagia Assessments for those with swallowing concerns.
Our Speech and Language Therapist works with children from the age of 18 months through to 18 years, providing Screeners (to assess if your child’s speech is on track), in-depth Assessments and regular weekly Therapy sessions.
For those with potential social communication diffculities we can provide formal Autism Assessments.
Sleep disruptions can impact many areas of a child’s life and it is incredibly common for families to get into a negative sleep cycle pattern.
It is important to note that for some children, sleep disruptions can be a sign of anxiety or an underlying concern. In these cases, it may be advisable to work with one of our Child Counsellors who can help get to the route of what may be causing the sleep disturbances.
If you feel your child does not need one-to-one Therapy support and you would prefer a more personal, tailored approach, our Behavioural Consultant works with many families who need a little extra guidance around sleep and can provide a one-off consultation to give you some extra guidance and tips.
We can provide formal Autism Assessment and Diagnosis, as well as supporting children who already have a diagnosis of Autism. Our Behavioural Consultant is highly experienced in working with children with Autism and can offer parents individualised support strategies and ideas that can be implemented at home. She runs hourly consultations for parents, usually in the evenings, via video call, without your child present.
Our Child Counselling team also are experienced in running sessions for children with Autism – if you feel your child may need an external space to talk through any of their thoughts or emotions, then please do get in touch. For younger children this would be addressed through play activities.
Our Speech and Language Therapist also can assist children with Autism who may need a little extra support with their communication and language skills. Our Occupational Therapist works every week with children with suspected, or diagnosed Autism, supporting them with general life skills and independence.
We can provide formal ADHD Assessment and diagnosis. For those who aleady have a diagnosis, our Child Counsellors are experienced in working with children with ADHD and can support those with a diagnosis to not only work through and understand what this means, but to enable children to have an outlet for their emotions and frustrations.
If your child is struggling in the classroom, an Educational Psychology Assessment can aim to give unique, tailored guidance on how your child may learn best and what additional strategies need to be put in place to help them reach their full potential. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy can also offer support sessions for many children with ADHD.
We appreciate that it can sometimes be difficult to know which service your child may require. Please fill out the referral form below, which will be submitted directly to our Therapy team. This will help us determine what professional and which service may be best suited to your child’s needs.
We shall then send you an email suggesting which direction may be most appropriate for your child. There is no obligation to book any service after this.
