Post-Diagnostic Support Sessions
Tunbridge Wells, Kent
A formal diagnosis is often only the first step, and although it can finally be an answer for children and their families, often ‘what next’ is a question many parents ask us. What do we do now my child has a formal diagnosis? What does it mean for our family? How can we best support them?
We provide in-house Psychoeducation Support sessions to families whose child has recently been diagnosed with ADHD or Autism, whether that be through a diagnosis in our clinic, or externally via the NHS or another clinic.
What is Psychoeducation
If your child has recently received a diagnosis of ADHD or autism, it is natural that you may feel overwhelmed trying to understand this, what it means for your child and your family and how to make sense of all the information available. If you feel that you need some further support post-diagnosis, we offer ‘Psychoeducation sessions.’
Psychoeducation involves providing information, guidance, and practical advice to help parents, children, and teenagers make sense of an ADHD or autism diagnosis. These sessions focus on understanding your child’s neurodivergent profile, and on empowering both children and parents with skills and strategies to play an active role in decision-making and self-advocacy.
Psychoeducation sessions are one-off sessions, for parents and child to attend together. We can also provide them for just parents. The sessions tend to last around 60 minutes, ensuring there is an opportunity for families to also ask any questions they may have about the diagnosis.
Who provides the sessions?
Depending on the date you require, our sessions are either provided by Rakel, our Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse or Dr Robson, our Psychologist who works within our ADHD/autism assessment team.
Fees
Sessions are charged at £120, payable at the time of booking.
